Preliminary Investigation on REE Concentrations Distributed Along Some Soil Profiles of Granite...

Abstract

This paper aims to preliminarily report geochemical (REEs) characteristics of some granitic bodies and their weathered crusts exposing in the vicinities of Ranong and Uthai Thani provinces. The Ranong granites of the Western Granitic Belt presented herein ore stressed biotite (± muscovite) granites from Ban Sai Daeng area, with TREYs in the rocks ranging from 422 to 619 ppm and in the weathered crusts from 219 to 926 ppm, and hydrothermally altered tourmoline-2-mico granites from Ban Haod Som Paen area, with TREYs ranging from 348 to 541 ppm and in the weathered crusts from 187 to 325 ppm. The Uthai Thani granites of the Central Granitic Belt granites demonstrated herein ore Ban Thong Long porphyritic biotite granite, with TREY ranging from 231 to 443 ppm  and in the weathered crusts from 176  to  669 ppm, and Ban Nam Rab porphyritic biotite-hornblend granite, with TREYs rangingfrom 248 to 354 ppm, and in the weathered crusts from 92 to 657 ppm.

Potash-Rock Salt Beyond the Bounds Underground Lao-Thai

Abstract

Kingdom of Thailand and Lao PDR has a long boundary connected together particularly in the NE bounds of Thailand. The Khorat plateau actually covers all in Thailand  and some parts in Lao. The geology of these countries is the same starting from the continental rock units till to the evaporate minerals, potash and rock salt. They have different rock names in any basin Vientiane Basin (in Lao), Sakon Nakhon Basin (in Thailand) and Nongbog Basin (in  Lao). For evaporite rocks, potash and rock salt, they can be correlated the same rock unit  all. The potash and rock salt are the economic mineral resources both in Thailand and Lao.  Geologists in both countries should exchange the knowledge in details to develop this biggest resource in Asia. It is the worth resources beyond the bound underground Lao-Thai.

Native Copper Deposits at Muang Chompet, Kweang Louang Pha Bang, Lao PDR.

Abstract

Mekong-River (Loo) Co, Ltd, (MRM) has conducted the mineral prospecting program in the basaltic copper deposits at Muang Chompet Kweang Louangphabang Lao PDR. During 2013-2014. Prospecting program include ground prospecting for new occurrences, regional geologic mapping, regional stream sediments sampling, ridges and spurs soil sampling.

The prospecting area is situated within Loie-Louangprabang fold belt which comprised sequences of sedimentary rocks, volcano-sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks of Carboniferous-Late Mesozoic age.

Sedimentary rocks of Paleozoic era comprise molasse sedimentary rocks of Carboniferous-Permiun period, Mesozoic rocks are of continental sediments. Volcanic rocks comprise effusive to explosive volcano to volcano-clastic rocks which are basic volcanic rock, pyroclastic rocks and felsic volcanic rocks.

Geological structure of the area are caused by the collision of Shan-Thai and Indochina  plate that developed Loie-Loungprabang fold belt during Permo-Triassic period which give NE-SW structures to Paleozoic rocks of the area. Mesozoic sedimentary rocks are trended in the same direction.

Mineral Exploration in Northern Laos: The Amanta Resources Exploration Project in LuangNamtha...

Abstract

The Luong Nomtha property of Amonto Lao Co., Ltd is located in northwest Luong Nomtho province, near the Lao-Burmese border. The property is accessible by road to the nearby town of Muang Long and from there by bush roods and trails leading southward into the 200 km2 mineral license area.

The area is forest-covered and shows medium strong relief, rising over 1000m above the valley floor at Muang Long, in the form of ridges and valleys generally disposed in a northeast-southeast direction but with numerous cross-valleys and drainage patterns imposed on this trend. Vertical relief is strong, perhaps 300 m. to 500 m. from valley streams to ridge crests.

The license area is underlain by a sequence of volcanic (andesites and basalts, with lesser areas of rhyolites and dacites) and terrigenous sediments (red beds and quartzites) of Permo-Triassic age.

Limestone Exploration for cement raw material: Mahaxai District, Khammouane Province, Lao PDR

1. Introduction

Limestone is the main components for cement raw material industry; it accounts for 80 percent of raw materials used in production process. Therefore, quality and quantity of limestone are the major concern in terms of investment in cement plants. Moreover, characteristic of limestone also has an effect on quality and quantity of other raw materials such as clay, sand or laterite.

First of all, limestone exploration starts with surface mapping to classify rocks in specific areas and collect rock samples in order to acquire chemical data. After receiving physical and chemical information of rocks, geologic map was created to show geologic data such as rock distribution, lithology, and geological structure.

Secondly, geologists will decide whether such areas are worth investing by evaluating all of the information from geologic map and choose potential areas to execute a drilling operation. Information about rock reserve and chemical characteristic can be obtained from boreholes which can be used in feasibility study.

This article is an example of limestone exploration for investment in cement industry in Mahaxai district, Khammouane province, Central Lao PDR.
